This repaint is a depiction of a Mk I Spitfire flown during the Battle of Britain, by the famous New Zealand ace, Al Deere. Deere was flying P9390 with 54 Squadron on the 28th of May 1940 when his engine was damaged in combat with a Dornier Do-17, and he was forced to land on a beach near Dunkirk. Despite being injured during the landing, Deere was able to escape from the area, and with the help of local civilians make it to the BEF's evacuation point at Dunkirk, and back to his squadron at RAF Hornchurch.
